I keep looking to see if a cheap Isuzu version will pop up, but no luck so far.

Prepare to go nowhere fast...err everywhere slowly...idk
Either way, join to the club!

Do it. Preferably the later 3.7L model though... apart from having more power it also has upgraded brakes. And some of the Atlas teething troubles fixed.

That’s kinda what I am going for.

wish they had done the 4.2 atlas in these things

But Captive rotors... Seriously though I own a 92 Accord with them and they are a bitch to replace

Just here to reiterate to be sure to get one that’s a late enough year to not have captive rotors.

You sir need a GMC Envoy XUV

This is truth. Nevertheless the truck is good

Doesn’t exist.

They were considering a turbo 3.5L, much like the planned turbo 4.2T for the TBSS, but ended up just doing V8's in both cases. You can see why but it would’ve been kinda unique and cool

I would have much rather seen a turbo atlas than the 5.3.. I think the Atlas never really got to shine!

Owned an 04 Crew cab Z71 ( I think that was the off road package ). Gave me 140k worry-free miles. It was capable off road, drove nice, had plenty of power even for towing, and returned low 20s for mileage.
My only complaint would be it rode kinda rough, but I got the off-road package and had 31's on it, so I was expecting that much.

Oh, one of my coworkers that just had the captive rotors on his Coloroado turned said that they switched to regular ones at some point. Haven’t bothered to research to find verify.

Honestly the 3.5L in my 04 was just as quick 0-60 as the same era Silverado with a 5.3L.
Plenty quick for a truck IMO.

There’s a small part of me that’ll never get over the fact that GM built a lovely straight-6 in the modern era and proceeded to put it in nothing besides an underwhelming SUV

Me too... what a damned shame. such a lovely engine that was!

If they did, it would be very un-GM in that they did it in the last couple years of production, and after already making one brake change.
They switched to bigger brakes in ‘09 iirc (spotters tip—you can often
tell the 09+ by the rims. The earlier weird rims with the gear-ish thing in the middle wouldn’t fit over the new brakes and they switched to something far more normal and better looking). My truck is a 2010, still got captive rotors. Production ended in ‘13.

To be fair, the 3.5 they were trying to turbo already had gasket issues. So it’s probably just as well.
Still tho...

Plus there’s a ton of tuning potential in those engines with very few mods, especially if you have the later 3.7L.

I had an intake and free exhaust on mine, it woke it up tremendously.

Fine, I’ll compromise.
No colorado/canyon/i280/i360 (or whatever).
Mazda B-Series, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, Suzuki Equator, or Toyota Tacoma. Or if you want maximum respect, a Mazda RE-PU.
Mitsubishi Raider (not the modern one) is also acceptable, as is a Nissan Hardbody and Toyota
T-100.
